Prayer for a hard-working mother By Deborah Gale Dear God It’s becoming easier to stay at work Than it is to go home And that is not As things should be I tell myself At least while I’m working I am in control There, I pretend that Everything is in order And occasionally feel Like I add value and Have complete strangers act Like they are my friends Until I get home Where absolutely everything There is spinning Out of control Kids, spouse, bills, pets Me So dear God Please leave my desk And my work behind Close my briefcase Shut the door and Open my soul Make me ready to receive Your gifts of patience and gratitude So I do not forget What is most important And can savor the Richest parts of my life Amen Author Deborah S. Gale is a Pennsylvania native, loving mother of five daughters aged seven to twelve including two sets of twins. Married to a classically cynical, witty Brit with whom she enjoyed DINKY status briefly. She hasn’t held a full time bill paying or spa treatment-covering job since the children and spent most of the '90's as an expat. wife and mother in Paris and London. After 23 years of calling Silicon Valley home, she bid adieu to the South Bay in December 2000 when she made a permanent move back to the UK. She writes a regular column for the American in Britain magazine. © siliconmom
