A mother's view of the war As another surge of soldiers head to Iraq, do you wonder if Bush's arrogance knows no bounds? Here's a commentary that first appeared internationally in the Financial Times of London. (click the pic)
To the mom who wrote about the war... MY son is in Iraq...I don't want my son or anyone else's son to go through what my son is going through. But this is what they've signed up to do. I always ask everyone to remember what they felt on 9/11 and that is why my son is over there...that they will not have the draft, that the war doesn't come over here. Don't get me wrong, I don't like war, I lived through Vietnam, but I don't want terrorism in this country. I want my children to go to school, to walk down the street withough fear. War has always asked for sacrifice - please listen to those who are sacrificing their lives. Signed Lisa Lewis, Texas
Dear siliconmom - Bulge of Honor I'm a dad, a grandfather, and an ex-husband of 44 years. I clicked on an icon with the title "Badge of Honor". What a pleasant surprise and super idea! I have long been an admirer of the target of your proposed badge. To me, it represents the most loving and honorable title that a woman can ever have: MOTHER! I have always referred to that gloriously obligatory mound as a "speed bump" - but never in a derogatory way. Maybe it's a man thing... Cheerio d'nu Signed Don _____, Texas

I want it NOW! Ever heard your kids say that? Ha! There are the ToysRUs meltdowns, the "Payless Shoes are so uncool" moments; and the endless stories of "Ryan's mom buys him...Kay's mom buys her..." Now there's a smart book to help you through those gimme bear moments. Author Donna Bee-Gates, PhD. shared some wisdom for siliconmom readers during an exclusive interview earlier this summer. Some of Donna's advice may surprise you. It's not just a case of saying NO and developing the hide of a rhinoceros; nurturing your child's altruistic side, getting them involved in community can be part of the solution.
